This company trains thoroughbreds right in the heart of throughbred country. Most farms are more intimately involved in the breeding, boarding and/or sales of thoroughbreds, so it was important to show the activity of this farm as very different from others - particularly since these other farms would hopefully become clients.
The logo would have to successfully show how it is different from "competing" farms.

The silhouette form allows the viewer to instantly recognize the jockey in a position typical of training in the early morning rather than racing.
